Tucked in on Richmond's Swan Street, The Ugly Duckling holds a little of all that is Melbourne; sophistication, theatre, gentle nods to the past, and of course, a good cocktail. The interior, designed by Hecker Guthrie, is shaped around the site of one of Melbourne’s first department stores, Balls Corner, a 19th-century heritage-listed building. It is a place to linger over elevated cocktails, or snack on antipasto-style plates. To mirror the space, our visual identity, packaging vision and web design leant into deep, inky navy, paired with restrained gold detailing. The bottles, weighty and apothecary-like, create a sense of craft and ritual, while the elevated presentation box is designed to feel ceremonial, drawing you in and unwrapping to reveal polished cocktails within.
