The Somers General is a place ready for discovery, in this quiet end of the Mornington Peninsula. Equal parts beachside café and coastal store, it brings together honest food, thoughtful goods, and the quiet confidence of locals who know their landscape intimately. Run by Dean Atkins and Zoe Proctor, it is less about hospitality, and more about belonging. A place to arrive, linger, and leave as part of the community. Originally a post office opened in 1927, much of the history of the building lingers. The nautical thread in the visual identity is drawn from the nearby Navy barracks, with the design language leaning into utility over nostalgia. Stencil like typography, condensed and unapologetically functional, letters that could easily mark a ship's hull, or a uniform. There’s a rhythm to it: spaced, stamped, no excess. Graphic elements act as signals rather than decoration. Everything points, guides, or anchors.
